Research conducted in the School of Chemical Engineering is tackling the some of the major issues facing our society and way of life today, and into the future. Issues, such as

  • Climate change
  • Energy supply and distribution
  • Water and Food supply and security
  • Processing and transforming minerals and other natural resources
  • Biological systems
  • New materials
The scope of the research activities range from
  • Understanding the multiscale relationships between atomic and molecular structures, and chemical and physical properties, to
  • Designing and controlling large scale systems such as industrial process plants, biological systems and even whole ecosystems.
This world-class research tackling problems at the fundamental to the applied level, are supported with research funding of over $20m/year from competitive research grants and from industry.
