Professor Paul Lant
Professor Paul Lant is the Head of the School of Chemical Engineering and is a leading international researcher in the field of wastewater treatment. 
An established chemical engineering educator, Professor Lant has received national awards for innovations in undergraduate teaching and supervision of postgraduate students. He has been a member of teams winning national Carrick awards for both undergraduate and postgraduate education in 2005 and 2006.
Professor Lant is one of the four founding members of The University of Queensland’s Advanced Water Management Centre, an international centre of excellence in innovative water technology and management.
Professor Lant was also one of the major instigators of the recently established International Water Centre, a joint initiative between four leading Australian Universities. The Centre aims to be an international leader in promoting new ways of thinking about water resources management.
Professor Lant is Project Director for the development and implementation of the Master of Integrated Water Management program targeted at mid-level professionals working in developing countries.
Professor Lant has consulted widely to Australian industry and is the Director of IWES, the leading provider of short course training for environmental professionals. He is also the founder and Managing Director of Wastewater Futures, a specialist wastewater technology company which provides expert services through the use of high-tech laboratory facilities, innovative technologies, pilot plant studies, consulting services and professional training.
Professor Lant’s current research projects include:
- Production of biodegradable PHA polymer (a biodegradable polymer) from wastewater and sewage treatment plant biosolids.
- ENREC – Energy recovery from sewage.
- Methane Driven Denitrification
- Determination of the fate of dissolved organic nitrogen in biological nutrient removal (BNR) processes and development of appropriate treatment technologies.
- Research & Innovation Leaders for Industry
- Life Cycle Assessment and Fugitive Emissions of Wastewater Treatment Systems
